I'm so sorry for your loss, Caroline. What a fantastic tribute to your mum - as you say Boulogne is part of her amazing life journey. Even if she barely got to see it.
So sorry to hear about your mother, Caroline. She sounds like a very special person. I’m glad you managed to get back to Ireland to be with her at the end.
Thank you so much. I just wish we had got to spend time together in Boulogne and the time to watch “Gone with the Wind” - I was hoping to watch it with mum as she recuperated, but she was just so so tired.
I’m sure that she was just happy knowing that you were around. One can always wish things; but I’ve come to realise, it's really for oneself - for the person one:s wishing them, things have become much simpler. (But do ignore this, if it isn't helpful right now…)
Beautiful elegiac writing Caroline. A lovely tribute to your Mum as well as detailed description of a place that is obviously important to you. Mothers of that generation had to be so resilient. My mother is in her early 80s and raised seven of us through tough times. They are to be admired. Sorry for your loss.
Very moving, Caroline. Your mum would have enjoyed Boulogne so much, and knowing you have written about it so beautifully would make her happy. She sounds like an amazing woman.
Dear Lucy, thank you so much for taking the time to write and for your kind words. They are indeed mighty mammies and mná na héireann.
What a truly amazing article
A beautifully written piece of work combing history and tradition and a wonderfully deeply personal tribute to your mum RIP Kitty 💜🙏xx

So sorry for your loss. But what a splendid tribute - and gift - to your mother.

No - Thank you - it is actually quite pertinent.
